About Brookwood School

The History of Brookwood School

Brookwood School was founded in 1956 as a non-denominational, coeducational, non-profit day school by a number of parents whose aim was to provide the community with an elementary school of the highest standards. The school is located on Route 127, on the Beverly/Manchester line. From its initial group of sixty-five children in Pre-Kindergarten through grade one, the school has grown to its present size of approximately 398 students of diverse backgrounds enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through the eighth grade. The excellence of the academic program and the warmth of personal feeling at Brookwood are testaments to the nature of Philip Cutler, our founding Headmaster. Though Pip Cutler retired in 1973, the values he stood for remain. John Ogden served as Headmaster until 1979, A. Marshall Lawton, from 1980 through 1992 at which point John Peterman became the fourth Brookwood Headmaster.

The Brookwood Song

No matter where my future calls,
My life inside these happy halls
Will glisten like the yonder sea
For Brookwood’s part of me.

Wherever stars may guide me,
I will always be
A life-long part of Brookwood
For Brookwood’s part of me.

The willowed pond, the playing fields,
The life-long friendships firmly sealed,
The heron weather vane above:
This is the world I love.

Wherever stars may guide me,
I will always be
A life- long part of Brookwood
For Brookwood’s part of me.
