Booster Seats and Field Trips

Did you know?  Effective July 10, 2008 a child passenger restraint is required by law (Mass St.2008, c79) for children ages 5-7 of age or until they reach 4’9” in height. The law reads: "No child under the age of 8 and measuring less than 57 inches in height shall ride as a passenger in a motor vehicle on any way unless such child is properly fastened and secured, according to the manufacturer's instructions, by a child passenger restraint." This means that a child who has grown out of their forward facing safety seat, should be placed in a booster seat.
When students are transported in a car on a school trip, Brookwood requires students who are 5-7 years of age and measure less than 57 inches in height to ride in a booster seat. Children, who are less than 5 years old and weigh less than 40 pounds, must ride in a federally approved car seat.
Parents may leave a booster seat or car seat at school when there is a field trip using transportation by automobile.
