The Dodge Writing Center sponsors three annual school-wide contests and periodic writing activities within the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. Contact Martha Fox, Director of the DWC, with questions and suggestions.

Winter Writing Contest, 2008


Brookwood Writers are invited to submit copies of real letters written for real purposes. The goal of the contest is to help students practice and value the art and craft of written correspondence.

Writers in all divisions may enter a copy of any kind of authentic letter. Types of letters include:

Thank-you Notes
Letters of Inquiry
Letters to the Editor
Letters to Authors
Letters of Complaint
Letters of Condolence
Letters Requesting Information
Fan Letters
Pen Pal Letters
Letters of Apology

A panel of teachers will judge the entries.
Winners will be selected in each division and major category.

Submissions will be evaluated for:

Content:
Is what you say effective for its purpose?
Do you use detail and/or support?
Are your thoughts well-organized?
Voice:
Does your individuality shine through?
Does the letter "sound" genuine?
Format:
Do you follow proper format, including date, greeting, and closing?
