Dodge Writing Center

Welcome to the DWC! Through a generous donation from Steven and Anne Dodge, the Dodge Writing Center was established in 1996. Adjacent to the DiCroce Library, the DWC provides a place for classes, differentiated learning groups, and individuals to develop literacy skills.

The DWC has Wi-Fi Internet access, a large Smart Board, master computer, laptop alcoves, overhead screen, document camera, microphones, and sound system for teaching and presenting. Visiting authors and illustrators and our own student writers hold readings, author celebrations, readers' theater performances, and both low and high-tech presentations. New and noteworthy resources aligned with our writing process approach are available for use by teachers and families to support and enrich the development of writing skills in our classrooms and at home.

Two New DWC Highlights

Writing Partners
The Writing Partners Program gives Brookwood students in grades 5-8 a time and place to meet with an 8th grade peer tutor to have a conversation about a piece of writing in process. Writing Partners are trained to ask questions and make observations that help writers make thoughtful decisions about their writing. It is not the purpose of Writing Partners to provide editing services or assert expertise. Rather than produce better writings, our ultimate goal is to promote a community working together to become better writers.
-- Mission Statement by 8th Grade Writing Partners and Facilitator Ray Falconer.

Learning Partnerships
The DWC is a hub for the communication that develops and sustains local, domestic, and global partnerships that enhance the academic program at Brookwood. Collaborations of all kinds offer our students and teachers opportunities to develop skills necessary for cultural competence, cross-cultural communication, and global citizenship.
