EBSCO Donation Expands Library Databases
Located in Ipswich, MA, just twenty minutes from Brookwood, EBSCO Publishing is a division of EBSCO Industries and is the leading database and eBook provider for libraries and institutions around the world.
“EBSCO’s license with thousands of publishers world-wide gives subscribers fast, simple access to full text articles which are not available through a general search on the web,” says Pamela Erickson, EBSCO implementation specialist and database trainer. EBSCO’s subscription database offers protected access to thousands of periodicals, articles, journals, reports, photos and videos.
According to EBSCO’s Erickson, "The databases bring together premium, customizable content specific to a user’s needs -- whether that researcher is a young student seeking information about frogs or a teacher pursuing work on a doctorate degree. Through 24-hour online access, research can begin at school and then continue at home."
“The depth and breadth of the materials is impressive,” comments Brookwood’s librarian Sheila Geraty. “In terms of library support services, it expands the research capability for the entire Brookwood community, from our youngest learners in Pre-K to faculty members and teaching apprentices, and allows the library to provide immediate access to scholarly, professional, full text articles."
Eighth graders are experiencing first-hand the power of the EBSCO databases as they gather information for their world history research papers. “From encyclopedias and journals to full-length articles and book reviews, EBSCO combines and compiles sources, giving Brookwood students access to resources previously only available at a major university or library,” relates Grade 8 History Teacher Peter Abramson. “To have this type of tool available to elementary and middle school students is really exciting. It’s incredibly powerful.”
Mrs. Geraty adds, “These databases enhance our existing resources and ensure a comprehensive, focused and well-rounded collection. We are incredibly appreciative of EBSCO’s donation.”
