As we launched our Lower School writing program this year, our goal was to invite all students to feel welcomed into the world of written language.

First and Second Grade children composed narrative writing about the events of their own lives.

My Mom is a Genius
My mom is a genius.
She made me a dog costume with only one helper – that is ME.
It was pretty hard.
We went to a store and we found the perfect material.
It looked like a cow, but we made it a Dalmatian.
We took a break. I said, “It will be done soon.”
Mom face-painted my face with white and black spots.
She made whiskers.
I loved my costume!

Letting Go
One day I was playing when I realized it was time to release my butterflies.
So I told my dad, and we took pictures.
Then we let them go.
I cried.
