Academic Support Services

Academic Support Services at Brookwood have developed over time in response to the school's commitment to serve most effectively an academically diverse current student population.

Skills specialists dedicated to each division are in place to facilitate the recognition, understanding and management of current Brookwood students with learning differences. They may provide educational assessment, consultation, and/or special learning materials to teachers.

The procedure for referring a current student for academic support varies depending upon the student’s division - Lower, Middle, or Upper School.  It is understood that initiation of the referral process by a teacher or grade-level team will not necessarily lead to enrollment in Skills programming.  In some cases, formal, independent diagnostic testing may be recommended by the Division Head or Assistant Head to obtain further information regarding a student’s needs.

In instances when Brookwood determines a current student will require learning support outside the classroom, the specific areas of need will be addressed through direct service in one-on-one or small-group sessions with a Skills specialist. It is important to note that support provided by Skills specialists are fee-based and not included in Brookwood tuition.

The overarching purpose of Skills programming is to assist current Brookwood students in mastering adequate skills to reach academic expectations, in developing a better understanding of their learning styles, and in becoming more independent learners.
