PGD in the Lower School

In the Lower School, PGD is referred to as “The Social Competency Curriculum,” is integrated throughout each day, and contains many components of Responsive Classroom. As in each of the divisions, a starting point of the program is an examination of “my self” and how I relate to others. An emphasis on the development of social-emotional skills supports the creation of strong classroom communities, as do practices such as morning meeting, classroom rule creation, etc.  Intentional and deliberate engendering of necessary skills is a curricular focal point; specifically: empathy/civility, a sense of self, resilience, personal responsibility, and empowerment/initiative receive attention through explicit teaching and modeling. Work with Middle and Upper School buddies supports the Lower School PGD program.   Return to PGD Home Page
