The Bird's Word Student Newspaper

Brookwood's student newspaper has grown from a staff of eight to its present size of 21 student journalists. Every Friday, young reporters gather for the weekly staff meeting in the Mac lab during which they review content and brainstorm story ideas. Now in its seventh year, The Bird's Word is published three times annually, and features original student writings and artwork -- faculty profiles, reviews of books, movies and plays, creative writing, poems, surveys, photography and more. The Bird's Word is one of many after-school programs available to Brookwood students. For more information, contact Jen Cunningham Butler, director of After School Programs, Kacey Morris or Kristie Hambrecht, editors of The Bird's Word.

Highlighting Writing
The Dodge Writing Center promotes and publishes student writing through authors celebrations in the DWC, readings at School Meetings, central bulletin boards, contests, and special literary events. In alignment with Brookwood's sustainability efforts, the Lower and Middle schools will offer writing-focused open-house days in classrooms this spring, inviting families and friends to learn about and enjoy the process and products of our writing curriculum. The Center also supports The Bit, an on-line zine published by Upper School students. Click here to view The Bit.
