STUDENT COUNCIL 2007 - 2008

Student Council Faculty Advisor: Monika Carbochova

The Mission of Brookwood School Student Council:

To identify and organize opportunities for Brookwood students to make a positive contribution to the Brookwood community and the larger community.

To act as role models for the Brookwood Student Body, both through leadership of community projects and through day to day conduct.

To represent the Student Body in communications with the Administration concerning issues relating to student life.

Description of Upper School Student Council Positions and Responsibilities

President:

Works together with Vice Presidents to propose a plan of activities for the school year.

Sets agenda for meetings

Runs weekly meetings (time to be determined)

Acts as primary spokesperson for Student Council

Communicates to the Brookwood Community in Thursday school meetings.

Vice President and Secretary:

Works together with  the President to propose a plan of activities for the school year.

Records minutes from each meeting, including delegations of responsibilities.

Vice President and Public Relations:

Works together with  the President to propose a plan of activities for the school year.

Responsible for public relations within the school. This includes updating the bulletin board, submitting ads to This Week At Brookwood, and creating posters and other promotional materials.           

6th and 7th Grade Representatives and 8th Grade Officers:

Are expected to participate actively in all meetings, to volunteer in all Student Council initiatives, and to carry out the Student Council Mission.

February 2008

THE STUDENT COUNCIL IS SPONSORING:
A USED GLASSES DRIVE

THE GLASSES WILL GO TO VOSH.
VOSH, VOLUNTEER OPTOMETRIC SERVICES TO HUMANITY, helps to provide care and glasses to areas of the world where eye care is unavailable. Please help us by bringing gently used glasses and drop them off in the box in the front lobby. Thank you.

You can view photos of their last trip in January '07 to Sabalos, Nicaragua, a small village on the banks of the River San Juan. They flew in to Managua, the capital, took a small puddle jumper (plane) to San Carlos and then travelled about 3 hours down river by motorized canoe to get there. Their group examined and provided glasses to about 1000 patients during the week.

January 2008

Emily Fox ('98) is serving her Peace Corps Mission in Mali, Africa. She is raising money to build a community youth center in the Sirakoro Village. The Brookwood student council raised $577.25 from the 7th and 8th grade dance and 6th grade movie night to send to Emily for this project. Thank you all who supported us!

May 2007

February-April 07:

Student Council ran a Used Cell Phone Drive.  Phones and accessories were recycled by the community, raising money to help a Brookwood Parent build a school in Wunlang, Sudan! To learn more about the Wunlang Project, visit http://helpwunlang.org/about.php.

 

January 07:

At the seventh and eighth grade dance, Student Council collected used children’s books. These chapter books and picture books were donated to Wellspring House, Beverly Bootstraps, People To People Food Pantry, and Star House.
