Jan. 12: Coffee and Conversation with Laura

It's a new year, and Laura would love to hear about your hopes and dreams for Brookwood School.
We invite all parents to join Head of School Laura Caron on Thursday, January 12 at 8:30 a.m. in the Liston Commons for Coffee & Conversation. We'll begin this casual gathering with a time for mingling among friends, old and new, followed by a conversation facilitated by Laura on issues of importance to the group.  We look forward to seeing you!

A fresh slate of after-school offerings will ring in the New Year at Brookwood. Check out the new class descriptions and sign up through the Brookwood Reports Server.
To ensure that courses are not cancelled, and in order to give teachers enough time to prepare for their new students, please sign up as soon as possible. Don't delay, some classes have limited enrollment space.
     Email Justin Zappia with questions.
Opportunity to host visiting students

Join us for an information session on January 4 at either 8 a.m. or 4 p.m. in the Dodge Writing Center to learn more about being a host family for students who will visit Brookwood.
In April Brookwood will host six Arab students from the Ilut School located in the northern Galilee region of Israel.  We are looking for six host families to welcome our visitors and provide comfortable living arrangements.
The children coming to visit us will spend the majority of their time with sixth graders, thus sixth grade families will get priority for hosting. If needed, we will open up this opportunity to other families with kids of a similar age. Our friends from Ilut will be here from April 4 to 18.
We hope to see you on January 4 at 8 a.m. or 4 p.m. in the Dodge Writing Center. If you have any questions, please contact Evan Diamond.
Brookwood Fund: 100% in 100 Days

We are in the final stretch of our parent participation challenge which comes to a close on January 9. Every gift counts! If you haven't made your gift or pledge, please do so today.
We are at 60% overall parent participation and would love to surpass last year's parent participation rate of 74%. But we can't do it without your support, at any level. Participation matters and we need you! Pledging helps our participation rate now. Pledge now and pay in the spring. Help your child's class get to 100%.

January 19: Parenting and Technology talk

Parents of children in Grades 4 and 5, mark your calendars for Thursday, January 19, from  8:30 to 10:00 a.m., in the Dodge Writing Center. Brookwood's Director of Technology will present a talk entitled, Parenting and Technology: Understanding the issues, establishing safe and appropriate practices.
Your children may be using social media like Instagram and Snapchat because they are fun and popular. They may also be using smartphones and iPads. Each of these technologies pose risks to children. Understand what these risks are and how to reduce them. Come and learn about the latest research on the impact of technology on children and how to help your child use technology in developmentally healthy and appropriate ways. What are the challenges that parents should know as their children grow up with technology and what are the best strategies for addressing these challenges?
