Friday saw the entire Grade 7 engaging in community service projects as students brought donations to four area food pantries. This group is headed to Gloucester's Cape Ann Food Pantry.
Admissions Open House tomorrow, Jan. 28
     Brookwood's Admissions Open House is tomorrow Saturday, January 28, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Current families are our best ambassadors in spreading the word about Brookwood. We hope that you will consider "sharing" and "liking" our upcoming admissions events on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to help spread the word!

Upper School Wellness Week: February 6-10
     On February 6 we will once again welcome Will Slotnick to the Upper School.  Will has been coming to Brookwood for the past seven years to speak in classes about addiction, wellness, stress reduction, diet, and mindfulness. 
     His easy going and approachable style always resonates with our students and leaves them with tools they can use to help them to live healthier lives both while at Brookwood and beyond. 
     While he will be meeting with each grade two times during the week, he is also available to parents. Please contact Evan Diamond (ediamond@brookwood.edu) for scheduling one on one meetings with Will. 
     Will is also giving a talk on February 10 at 2 p.m. in the Dodge Writing Center. This meeting is open to all Brookwood parents.  We hope to see you there!
Visiting author Andrea Davis Pinkney
on campus Wednesday, February 1
     On Wednesday, February 1, Brookwood will host author Andrea Davis Pinkney. During her visit, she will work with students in all divisions.
     Andrea is a New York Times bestselling and award-winning author of more than 30 books for children and young adults, including picture books, novels, works of historical fiction and nonfiction. Her books have been awarded multiple Coretta Scott King Book Awards, Jane Addams Children's Literature Honor citations, NAACP Image Award nominations, the Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor medal, several Parenting Publication Gold Medals, and American Library Association Notable Book citations.

Parent-Teacher conferences Feb. 28, March 1

     Lower and Middle School Parent-Teacher conferences are coming up on Tuesday, February 28 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. and March 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
     February 28 is an early release day with a noon dismissal for all students in Lower and Middle School. Wednesday, March 1 is a normal school day for students even though Parent-Teacher conferences take place this day. 
     As in the fall, Parent-Teacher conference sign up will be through an online Google form.  Doug Fodeman will send an email to all parents of Lower School and Middle School children on Thursday, February 9 at 5 p.m. with the link and instructions for conference sign-up using the form.
Plan ahead for Conference Day half day

     In anticipation of the February 28 Parent-Teacher Conference half day, Brookwood will offer special programming for children in grades PreK-5 (those being released early that day).
     Anyone interested in having a child attend these specialty programs can learn more about them and register at Half day Programming. All students planning to attend the programs, which  will run from noon to 3:00 p.m. on February 28, must be pre-registered by February 24 at 5:00 p.m.
     There is a small fee associated with each of these programs that will be billed through your Brookwood account. There is also regular PreK/K after-school, REACH, Homework Club coverage available from 3:00-6:00 p.m. (regular rates apply) that day. 
     Note: There will be free drop-in coverage available in the library for those families who want/need coverage for their child/ren during their actual conference time. No early sign-up is necessary, just be sure to sign your child in and out.

     (Please be aware that March 1 is a regular full day of school for students despite the fact that it is also a Parent-Teacher Conference Day.) 
Grade 8 Play ticket sales and information
     Tickets for the Grade 8 musical Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, with performances on March 7, 8, and 9, will be available for sale to the Brookwood community beginning on Wednesday, February 15 at 6 a.m. Tickets are $10 each, and there is a ticket purchase service fee. Tickets will be sold through a link on the brookwood.edu home page.
     Grade 8 families will be able to purchase tickets in a pre-sale, which begins Monday, February 13 at 6 a.m. Information about the pre-sale will be sent by Debbie Gantt directly to eighth grade families.

Summer at Brookwood 2017
     It's official . . . Summer at Brookwood 2017 is now accepting registrations. Please visit the Brookwood website to learn about the amazing full- and half-day specialty camps we are offering this summer to students in rising PreK through Grade 9. In addition, we will offer new single day trip adventures throughout the summer months! Descriptions of all the camps and trips as well as related logistical information can be found on the Summer Camps page on the web.
     Register by using the "Register Now" button on the Brookwood website. We are confident these are the most unique camps on all of the North Shore, so don't miss an opportunity to get your child signed-up. Space is limited, plus there's an early registration discount until February 20 on most camps -- 10% off.
