Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and Faculty for Tech-Know Faire! What a fantastic and inspiring day for our community.
All of us were overwhelmed by Chef Al's amazing butternut squash soup. He's kindly shared his recipe here:Chef Alex's Butternut Squash Soup
2 lbs butternut squash (peeled and seeded)
2 Large onions
1 lb of carrots (peeled and cut into small pieces)
1 stalk of celery (cut into small pieces)
3 cloves of garlic (chopped finely)
½ gallon of vegetable stock
½ gallon of apple cider
6 peeled and sliced apples
½ bag of brown sugar
2 Tsp of cinnamon
1 stick of butter
½ cup of flour
Salt and Pepper to taste
Create rue with the butter and flour and set aside. Cook all other ingredients together until vegetables are tender (about 1 hour). Use a hand blender to blend the soup and add the rue to create a desired consistency.
Are your kids growing out of their beloved Brookwood pajama bottoms and sweatshirts? Do you have special event dress wear for your children (pants, skirts, shirts and blazers) that they've now grown out of? In the Brookwood spirit of "Go Green," we would like to introduce Brookwood Outfitters.
Brookwood Outfitters is a new PA program that is complimentary to all families. Whether you are looking to donate Brookwood Spirit Wear or you are in search of a blazer or skirt for special event and performance dress day, we welcome you to come to the Parents' Association
office and look through our selection of gently-used Brookwood clothing items. Feel free to drop items or shop items at any time convenient for you!
Brookwood students sing the Star Spangled Banner in honor of Veterans Day at Thursday's School Meeting.
Admissions Open House on Nov. 19, 1 p.m.
Help spread the word! Your referral of families to Brookwood is the greatest endorsement of the value of a Brookwood education.
If you know of any parents and students who are considering an independent school, please share your experiences with them and encourage them to join us for our Open House on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m.
Head of School Coffee, December 1:
The AISNE Process
Please mark your calendars to join us for an informational coffee on Thursday, December 1 at 8:30 a.m. in the DWC to discuss the accreditation process Brookwood just completed with the Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE).
The Brookwood Fund
Thank you parents for showing your support and "Voting for Brookwood!" We are currently at 38% participation in our 100% in 100 Days challenge.
If you haven't made your gift or pledged your support, there is still time! Remember, a pledge counts toward our goal (and you will not receive another call from our volunteers) but payment is not due until fiscal year end, June 30, 2017. Brookwood needs your help to achieve 100% participation. Together we can.
PA Health & Wellness Speaker: Promoting
a safe, healthy approach to youth sports
Panel Discussion Thursday, November 17 at 8:30 a.m. Liston Commons Navigating the world of youth sports: How to avoid over-use injuries and cultivate a safe, healthy and balanced practice.
Leading the discussion will be Dr. Joana Fraser, Attending Physician in Sports Medicine, Laura Moretti, Clinical Nutrition Specialist, both of Boston Children's Hospital. Also speaking will be Zola Solamente, former US Women's National Soccer Team member, US Sports Envoy for the State Department in Sports Diplomacy, and North Shore coach.
The group will address the topic of athletics
and school-age children from a number of angles, including the escalating issue of overuse injuries due to volume, intensity, and frequency of participation, healthy eating strategies for optimal nutrition and performance, and how to help your children become healthy, happy, socially-conscious student-athletes.
Whether you have a young child just starting to kick the ball around or an upper-schooler immersed in athletics, this talk is geared towards all of us interested in cultivating healthy, balanced attitudes and practices towards (and avoiding strain from!) those activities that add so much value to our family lives.
Holiday Book Fair, December 7-8
Get your holiday shopping done early! On Wednesday, December 7 and Thursday, December 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Parents' Association in conjunction with The Book Shop of Beverly Farms will once again hold a Holiday Book Fair in the front lobby.
Choose from a wide assortment of best-selling new fiction and nonfiction, cookbooks, autobiographies, sports collections, children's books, among other genres. This is a wonderful opportunity to do some holiday shopping and help our students. All proceeds from the event are used to help fund author visits and buy new books for classrooms.
We will take special orders before the fair and for the week following the fair, so if you'd like to support Brookwood, but don't see your title, please let us know.
If you have any questions, please email either Susan Pincus, Julie Bernier or Sheila Geraty.
