4 to 14 Speaker Series welcomes author

Richard Louv - Tues., September 27

Mark your calendars for an exciting 4 to 14 Speaker Series Event when Brookwood hosts bestselling author Richard Louv on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available online.
In Vitamin N, Louv delivers another powerful call to action - 500 ways to enrich the health and happiness of families and communities through reconnecting with nature. In this practical guidebook, Louv provides tips for parents on sharing nature with their kids as well as inspirations for educators, medical professionals and career seekers.

Well known for the term "Nature-Deficit Disorder," which he coined in his bestselling book Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv sparked a national debate that spawned an international movement.  In The Nature Principle, he argued simply and convincingly, "The more high-tech we become, the more nature we need."
Now is its sixth year, Brookwood's 4 to 14 Speaker Series: Parenting Elementary School Kids is pleased to welcome writers of note who speak on issues of parenting, raising healthy children, and navigating the ups and downs of family life.
Mr. Louv's September 27 talk promises to be thought-provoking and informative and a full house is expected. Get your tickets today!
Important information about your
Emergency Notification Account

After our test voice message on September 6, we learned that many families had not set up their Blackboard Connect (BBC) emergency contact accounts or had set them up and not checked to receive Voice and OUTREACH messages for their accounts.
If you haven't done so yet, please set up your account as soon as possible.
If you have set up your account, please log in, mouse over your account name and select Contact Info.  Please verify that your phones have a check mark under "Voice" and at least one phone is checked under "Text."  Next, mouse over your account name and select Subscriptions.  Please verify that "Outreach" is checked under all three symbols (phone, email and text).
Only one BBC account is needed per household.  We will schedule another test of our BBC system at the end of September.
If you have any questions, please contact Doug Fodeman, extension 6233.
Auxiliary Programs Plan Ahead!

Brookwood will offer half-day coverage (Noon to 3:00 p.m.) on the Tuesday, October 25 Conference Day as well as regular PreK/K, REACH, and Homework Club after-school coverage that afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Details will be published soon.
Only those pre-registered for these opportunities will have a chance to attend. In addition, parents may drop off Brookwood students in the library while in conferences with a child's teacher on either October 25 or October 26.  Look for program details and sign-up information in next week's TWAB.
Please contact Justin Zappia (jzappia @ brookwood.edu) with any questions or for more information.
Individual music lesson information

Individual music lessons, combos and ensembles will begin Monday, September 19. Visit Music Instructors to view the updated list of instructors.
Registration for individual music lessons took place in the spring using Infosnap. If you did not register online or still need to select an instrument to study, please contact Debbie Gantt (dgantt @ brookwood.edu).
If you have not heard from an individual music teacher to set up a lesson time, or have any other program questions, please contact Debbie Gantt, Performing Arts Coordinator.
COMBOS and ENSEMBLES will also begin the week of September 19. If you did not get to enroll in these extra curricular music groups please contact Debbie Gantt.
Care after music lessons and combos

Please remember to contact Justin Zappia for after-school
programming needs and Debbie Gantt for before- and after-school  music lessons.
For safety reasons, students may not wait alone for a parent outside of the lesson space or in the lobby. Therefore we offer after-school care for children in all grades.
Following lessons, there is a 15-minute grace period during which time there is no charge.  However, the final lessons Monday-Thursday conclude promptly on the hour with student pick-up at 6:00 p.m., and on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
Because of staffing requirements and our ever-expanding number of students taking music lessons after school, if your student is staying in our PreK-K After-School Program/
REACH/Homework Club for more than 15 minutes, please note that there will be the regular after-school charge.
