Blood drive at Brookwood, September 16
On Friday, September 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Brookwood School is hosting a blood drive to benefit the Red Cross.  Help save lives by registering online today!
Because blood has a limited shelf life, the community blood supply must constantly be replenished to meet the need of area hospitals and emergency relief services. Help save lives by scheduling and keeping an appointment to donate blood at Brookwood's September 16 drive. Donors gain a sense of pride and accomplishment and help assure that blood is available when it is needed for family, friends and community members.
Healthy donors can give blood every 56 days. Join Brookwood and register today through the Red Cross Online Scheduling System.

4 to 14 Speaker Series welcomes author

Richard Louv - Tues., September 27

Mark your calendars for an exciting 4 to 14 Speaker Series Event when Brookwood hosts bestselling author Richard Louv on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available online.
In Vitamin N, Louv delivers another powerful call to action - 500 ways to enrich the health and happiness of families and communities and combat Nature-Deficit Disorder. In this practical guidebook, Louv provides tips for parents on sharing nature with their kids as well as inspirations for educators, medical professionals and career seekers.

Well known for the term "Nature-Deficit Disorder," which he coined in his bestselling book Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv sparked a national debate that spawned an international movement to reconnect kids and nature. In The Nature Principle, he argued simply and convincingly, "The more high-tech we become, the more nature we need," and influenced not only the public perspective but also national policy, inspiring campaigns across the country.
Now is its sixth year, Brookwood's 4 to 14 Speaker Series: Parenting Elementary School Kids is pleased to welcome writers of note who speak on issues of parenting, raising healthy children, and navigating the ups and downs of family life.
Mr. Louv's September 27 talk promises to be thought-provoking and informative and a full house is expected. Get your tickets today!
Time to sign-up for after-school programs

Families are encouraged to sign up for PreK-K After- School Program, REACH (Grades 1-3), and Homework Club (Grades 4-8) immediately. After-school coverage will begin the first day of school and many after-school classes will start the week of September 12.
For more detailed information on both before- and after-school programming, click here: Auxiliary Programming.
To sign up, log in to the Reports Server using the password that was sent by email from Doug Fodeman on August 22.  Once you have logged in to the server, click the tab labeled "Auxiliary Programs." Next, click "Add or Edit Registrations" for either "After-School Classes" or "REACH/Homework Club." Please be sure to fill in all information, including the preferred dismissal plan (i.e.: meeting your child in an after-school space; having your child join Middle/Upper School dismissal at 4 p.m.; taking the bus; having your child go to REACH/Homework Club).
Confirmation for class registration will be sent via email. Please contact Justin Zappia (jzappia@brookwood.edu) with any questions or for more information.
Information on before-school care
Early Birds, Brookwood's before-school care for students, will begin on Thursday, September 8. For more information click Early Birds.
Care after music lessons and combos

Please remember to contact Justin Zappia for after-school
programming needs and Debbie Gantt for before- and after-school  music lessons. For safety reasons, students may not wait alone for a parent outside of the lesson space or in the lobby. Therefore we offer after-school care for children in all grades.
Following lessons, there is a 15-minute grace period during which time there is no charge.  However, the final lessons Monday-Thursday conclude promptly on the hour with student pick-up at 6:00 p.m., and on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
Because of staffing requirements and our ever-expanding number of students taking music lessons after school, if your student is staying in our After-School Program/REACH/Homework Club for more than 15 minutes, please note that there will be the regular after-school charge.
