“The Brookwood Way”
Brookwood is a warm child-centered community that is wholeheartedly focused on students. Just as it is our goal to create a school where students are happily engaged in their education so too is it our responsibility to encourage them to take risks, to give them the support to challenge themselves and each other in a safe environment. We have come to refer to this as “The Brookwood Way.” And it is within our environment we believe that children have the best chance to become confident life-long learners. The result is that Brookwood graduates make a significant difference in their next schools and beyond.

An Expectation of Engagement
Our children will inherit a complex world and face challenges and opportunities that we cannot even begin to imagine. Preparing them requires a program of both balance and breadth. That’s why we teach from a decidedly multi-cultural perspective – to build in our students an understanding of what it means to be a global citizen, now as well as ten and twenty years down the road. A Brookwood education is about skills. . . and more: It’s about experiences.

Our curriculum puts into practice the most current methodologies, focusing on inquiry, experience and collaboration rather than simply rote memorization – and it introduces age-appropriate challenges with each subsequent grade level. Brookwood faculty are here because they love teaching kids, and they are all keenly aware that superior learning will spring from their ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships with their students. Brookwood teachers recognize – and celebrate – each child’s individuality.

An Experience in Risk Taking
Where do our kids find the courage to push themselves? Amid a culture of respect that promotes healthy risk-taking and consistently values effort over perfection. “This is a safe place to take a risk and falter," says one Brookwood faculty member. "Everyone who graduates from Brookwood will fail at some point – and learn how to overcome failure.”

The Art of Expression
Kids are full of creativity, and at Brookwood that is something to celebrate and empower. Students have ample opportunity to express themselves artistically as well as musically. Performance is a Brookwood tradition, fueled by a half century of unforgettable moments.
