Fall Athletics: Teams, Schedules & What’s Ahead

Weekly News

It has been a busy and exciting first week of athletics at Brookwood! Our fields have been full of energy, hustle, hard work, and plenty of nerves as students jumped into soccer and field hockey tryouts and cross country practices. It has been great to see our athletes back out there learning, competing, supporting one another, and settling into a new season.

For soccer and field hockey, coaches spent the week getting to know players, evaluating skills, and considering where each athlete will have the best opportunity to grow. At Brookwood, we are more concerned with getting the level right than with the name of the team. Our goal is to place each student in an environment that offers a healthy balance of success and challenge—where they can contribute, build confidence, be pushed, and continue developing as an athlete and teammate. Team placement is not a judgment about a student’s potential; it is our best assessment of where they will have the most meaningful experience this season.

Tryouts also give students an opportunity to practice something bigger than the sport itself. Sometimes they get the news they hoped for, and sometimes they don’t. Both experiences are valuable. We encourage families to listen, acknowledge disappointment when it arises, and help students work through it, advocate for themselves, and find success in what comes next. Coaches and I are always here to support those conversations.

Now comes the fun part! Practices are underway, and games and meets are just around the corner. The fall athletic schedule is live today in Veracross, where families can find team rosters, schedules, game information, and other updates. Please keep an eye on schedules throughout the season, as occasional changes are inevitable.

Your child’s coach will also be in touch next week with a team welcome, expectations, and additional information about the season.

We have a great group of coaches and athletes, and we’re looking forward to a fall filled with growth, competition, teamwork, and plenty of Brookwood spirit.

Go Herons!
