Brookwood provides extensive before- and after-school programs in order to meet the various needs of our families.
Before-school care for Early Birds begins at 7:30 a.m. every morning for students of all ages, offering supervised coverage in the library. Early Birds Staff supervise students as they read, color, review homework, work on the computer, and play quiet games. Families are invited to enroll in this program if they anticipate needing regular coverage in the mornings prior to 8:00 a.m. drop-off. Families are also welcome to “drop-in” when occasional coverage is needed, with no pre-registration necessary.
In the afternoons, our Auxiliary programs run daily until 5:30 p.m.
Regular After School
Beginning at 3:00 p.m. for our Lower School students and 4:00 p.m. for our Upper School students, our regular After School program offers a balance of active and calm, child-initiated and teacher-led activities based on the developmental needs and interests of the students. Offerings may include: arts and crafts, imaginative play, building, board games, gym & field games, outdoor play, reading, storytime, and optional time for homework. This program uses a variety of school spaces including the library, Town Square, gyms, playgrounds, turf, and/or the Liston Commons.
We do our best to offer an outside option daily; however, this will be dependent on weather and daylight. Snack is provided daily. Most days, students are grouped in grade-level bands of EC/K, 1st – 3rd, and 4th – 8th. Pre-registration is highly encouraged with “drop-in” care available on an as needed basis, if space is available.
After School Enrichment
In addition to our regular After School program, a series of After School Enrichment classes are available to students, with new offerings in fall, winter, and spring. Fall Enrichment classes begin mid-September and usually run until winter break.
Winter classes run in the weeks between winter and spring breaks. Spring classes launch after spring break and go until the beginning of June. These classes are often related to STEM, visual and performing arts, and athletics. Pre-registration is required.
