Dear Families,

If there’s one word that captures the spirit of this week, it’s thoughtful. Not in the quiet, head-down sense, but through care made visible, through gestures that make people feel seen.

Walk through campus on any given day, and you can feel it. Last week, sixth grade parents surprised our faculty and staff with a Halloween breakfast that brought laughter and connection to a bustling day. This week, fifth grade families followed suit with a beautiful spread that turned an ordinary Thursday into something special. On behalf of every teacher and staff member who paused for a bagel, a cup of coffee, and a moment of appreciation—thank you. Your thoughtfulness fuels us.

That same spirit carried into our Parent/Teacher Conferences these past two days. At Brookwood, we think of conferences not as transactions of information, but as conversations rooted in partnership. They’re a chance to slow down and share what we each see—at school and at home—so that together we can support every child’s growth with care and intention. When we talk about being “thoughtful” as a value, this is what we mean: the willingness to listen deeply, to notice, and to act with empathy.

Conferences, of course, aren’t the only time to have these conversations. If something arises or you’d simply like to talk about your child’s experience, please reach out. These are ongoing dialogues—throughout the year and throughout your child’s time at Brookwood—because true partnership grows through consistent communication and shared reflection.

I hope your conferences left you with both insight and inspiration—a clearer sense of your child’s progress, and a renewed appreciation for the collaborative spirit that defines this community.

With gratitude,

Jon
