Tick Season Reminder & Spring Prevention Update

Weekly News

As we head into spring and spend more time outdoors, it’s a good time to revisit our shared approach to tick awareness and prevention on campus.

Ticks are active in our area throughout much of the year—and with warmer weather, activity increases. Because outdoor learning and play are an essential part of the Brookwood experience, we take a proactive, layered approach to keeping students safe.

On Campus
As part of our ongoing commitment to student health and well-being, Brookwood continues to treat key outdoor areas—including the Forest School and playground—on a regular schedule using all-natural, essential-oil-based applications. These treatments are designed specifically for environments where children learn and play.

In addition, faculty and staff support students with awareness and, when appropriate, tick checks during the school day.

At Home: What Families Can Do
We ask families to partner with us by building a few simple habits into your daily routine—especially after time outdoors:

  • Do a quick head-to-toe tick check (hairline, behind ears, under arms, waistbands, backs of knees, and sock lines)
  • Shower or bathe after extended outdoor time when possible
  • Place outdoor clothing in the dryer on high heat for a short cycle to help reduce risk

A Shared Approach
Prevention works best when we’re all working together. Our campus treatments, combined with daily awareness and at-home checks, help ensure that students can continue to explore, learn, and play confidently in our outdoor spaces.
