Weekly News

There’s something special about the final dance of the year. We welcome our sixth graders to their very first Upper School dance, while our eighth graders step onto the floor for their last. Traditions like this help mark the passage of time in meaningful ways, and we’re looking forward to an evening filled with fun and joy.

The Upper School Student Life Leadership Group is sponsoring the final Brookwood dance of the school year on Friday, May 15 at 6:00 pm. Logistics are detailed in this letter to support your planning and ensure that everyone has a great time.  We are excited that the 6th Grade is joining us!

  • Drop-off begins at 6:00 p.m. in the courtyard.
  • Pick-up is at 8:00 p.m. We ask that all arrangements for pick-up be made before the dance.
  • Food: We will be serving chicken fingers, wings, mozzarella sticks, pizza, veggies and some sweets.
  • Guests: Brookwood students can bring guests. Hosts will be expected to introduce their guest to a chaperone upon arrival at Brookwood.
  • Event Dress Code
    • non-jean long pants
    • button-down shirt
    • bow or regular tie
    • jackets not required
    • no flip flops
    • skirt and blouse
    • simple dress or sundress
    • formal pants and blouse
  • Appropriate expectations: Under no circumstances do we advocate the spending of money simply for this occasion. This is categorically NOT a time for limos or tuxedos. Rather, it is simply a time to dress nicely in order to honor the passing of time---and another class of soon-to-be Brookwood graduates. We hope you will support our efforts to celebrate while ensuring that it does not take on proportions inappropriate for a middle school.
  • Electronics/Phones: We realize that students may be bringing electronic devices with them for use after the dance; however, students may not use any personal electronic devices during the dance. Cell phones must remain turned off and secured with other personal items.
  • Chaperones: There will be four Brookwood teachers chaperoning this dance. The faculty will supervise the dance area and the Lobby.  If you need to contact your child during the dance, please text Monika Carbochova (phone number in email sent to parents on April 30).
  • Reminder: We expect students who attend school dances to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with Brookwood's Code of Ethics and Statement of Commitment. If a student behaves inappropriately, we will dismiss the student from the dance immediately, and additional disciplinary consequences may be forthcoming.

Thanks for your support of this fun event!
